Tropical Ecology, F19 – S20: Costa Rica

Plans are shaping up for our Field Ecology & Evolution course sequence for the next academic year.

The sequence will start with a 2-credit lecture course in F19 that will prepare students for the field trip later on. There will be both undergraduate and graduate course numbers (Bio 4451 and Bio 8940).

The next element is our field trip to Costa Rica. This will start on 28 or 29 Dec 2019 and end on 12 Jan 2020 (classes on campus start the next day). Our packed itinerary will take us to four distinctly different ecoregions within Costa Rica; our emphasis will be on general natural history observations as well as short student research projects at a Caribbean lowland rainforest location.

During the rest of S20, students will complete the 2-credit laboratory course, which mostly constitutes follow-up to the field trip. Again, there will be both undergraduate and graduate course numbers (Bio 4452 and Bio 8941).
