Chickadee settlement patterns at Hawk Mountain

Do chickadees in our thoroughly mixed chickadee populations—which includes Black-capped Chickadees, Carolina Chickadees, and a lot of hybrids—settle across the site in ways that suggest either positive assortment (birds with similar genotypes “finding each other”) or negative assortment (birds avoid others with genotypes similar to their own)?

Breanna Bennett has explored these patterns recently, as explained in a blog post on her web site.

Breanna also presented results of her analyses as a poster at the 2019 American Ornithological Society annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska (June 2019).
