Update: our project proposal via Experiment.com was successful! Thanks so much to everyone who pledged as a backer.

Today we launched a project, as part of a “Challenge Grant,” via Experiment.com to raise funds for Holly’s proposed study of interspecific relationships between Narrow-billed and Broad-billed todies in the Dominican Republic. The project could combine three areas of biology dear to my heart: tropical island birds, hybridization, and possibly cooperative breeding (the Puerto Rican Tody has helpers; whether either or both of the Hispaniolan species does is unknown). We’ve had success with Experiment.com once before, for Kate Freeman’s work on St. Lucia White-breasted Thrashers. Wish us luck!
